I liked that there were a variety of topics covered in this book, including the mind, body, dating, mating, and life in general, but at the same time it was almost too many topics. Because of that I picked and chose which articles I wanted to read. I liked the format of the book because it was just articles it felt like a magazine and had lots of pictures and illustrations.

I did enjoy that there were different views and interviews from a variety of interesting people such as Michelle Obama, Jay Z, Tina Fey, Dr. Phil, Dr. Oz, and Ellen DeGeneres. There were also articles from everyday people talking about their issues and how they dealt with them.

I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s a must read, but there will always be die hard Oprah fans who eat up anything she’s puts out.

Next up is the Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin.

Bossypants by Tina Fey

Everyone love Tina Fey and after reading this book it is obvious why. She is really funny and successful yet very relatable. She is honest and constantly uses self deprecating humor.

She talks about her life growing up and how she got into theatre and acting. She also chronicles her time in Chicago working at Second City. For those of you unfamiliar with Second City it is a comedy theatre that has bred some very famous comedians such as Steve Carell, John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, Chris Farley, John Candy, Amy Peohler, and Stephen Colbert. Quite impressive.

I enjoyed reading about her perspective and thoughts of impersonating Sarah Palin on Saturday Night Live. It was such a hit on both TV and the internet. Millions of people tuned in to see her impression and even Sarah Palin herself came on one week to play along.

A chapter I thought was hilarious was titled, “Amazing, Gorgeous, Not Like That” where she talks about the experience of going to a photo shoot.  She talks about how everyone is so accommodating and dotes on you and then you go home and things are right back to normal but you are expecting your family to praise you for cooking eggs because you are used to the super positive feedback.

And lastly I enjoyed the chapter about her contemplating having another child. And being torn because she is a busy working mom with a lot on her plate. I thought it was very relatable and honest and something a lot of women struggle with.

I would definitely recommend this book if you haven’t already read it. It came out in 2011 (I’m a little behind in books as I mentioned earlier) and she did in fact go on to have a second child.

Next week I’ll review Love Your Life by the Editors of Oprah Magazine.
